About me
After an assistantship at Temple Israel (St. Louis), Joe served for nineteen years in congregations in Terre Haute IN, and Chattanooga TN, which included teaching at Indiana State University, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, and the University of Tennessee/Chattanooga. He became Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Emanu-El (Oak Park MI), completing sixteen years in the congregation. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Oakland University and Rochester Christian University, both in Rochester, MI, and teaches from September to May in the Metro-Detroit Jewish Federation's adult education program. Additionally, he is the Visiting Rabbi of the Grosse Pointe (MI) Jewish Council.
In the summer of 2024 he published "Reading Genesis Again For The First Time-- A Radical Commentary" (Amazon Publishing), drawn from his synagogue, church and university courses.
